Can I take courses during the summer at my local community college that will apply toward graduation at UCSD?

Yes. Courses taken at a community college may apply toward graduation at UCSD if they are transferable for credit. To find out of the courses are "UC transferable" go to assist. org

Will the grades that I earn in transferable community college courses be included in my UCSD GPA?

No. The units will transfer to UCSD, but the grades (which are not UC grades) will not be included in your UCSD GPA.

How do I determine if courses at a community college are transferable for credit?

ASSIST is a data base located on the web at www.assist.org which can help you determine if you will receive credit for community college courses you plan to take and how those courses will apply to specific academic goals at UCSD. Please note that in some cases petitions to the academic major department or Muir College may be necessary if the transferable course from the community college is not considered equivalent to a UCSD course. You also have the option to contact the UCSD Admissions Office at (858) 534-4831 to ask for assistance in determining whether or not a course in transferable for credit to UCSD.

Can a transferable community college course apply toward either a college or major requirement?

If a community college course is listed as an equivalent to a UCSD course on assist.org there is no need to submit a petition to either your college or major department. If a community college is not listed as equivalent to a UCSD course on assist.org and you would like to request that this transfer course be applied toward a college or major requirement, you must submit a petition to the appropriate office. Please see the Muir Academic Advising Office for more specific information.

How are community college units on the semester system converted to quarter units?

The conversion from semester to quarter is 1.5 times the number of semester units earned.
