Announcements & Updates
• CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Next week, construction will commence on Monday, November 9. During the intial phase of construction, the trees within the construction site will be removed and the bike racks on the east side of the Tuolumne Apartments will be displaced. Expect some congestion on the south side of Muir College during this time and please plan your trips to your classes and other university activities accordingly. • New Library Hours
The Geisel Library Building will close at midnight from Sunday to Thursday (instead of 2am) and will close on Friday at 6pm
(instead of 7pm).
- The Biomedical Library will open at noon on Sunday (instead of 10am) and will close on Friday at 6pm (instead of
8pm).
- CLICS will open on Sunday at noon (instead of 10am).
- The SIO Library will be open from 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday (instead of 8am-8pm) and on Fridays from 9am-5pm (instead
of 8am-6pm). The library will be closed on Saturday and Sunday (instead of open from noon-5pm both days).
• Changes to Express 15s
During WEEKS 6-9, Express 15 Walk-In Advising will be available 8:30-11am and 1-3pm on MONDAY, TUESDAY, AND FRIDAY. On WEDNESDAY, Express 15s are available from 1-3pm ONLY, and on THURSDAY, Express 15s are available from 8:30-11am ONLY. You can also call 858-534-3580 or stop by our office in HSS 2126 to schedule an appointment. Join our Facebook group for schedule updates.
• Dine With A Professor
Interested in spending some quality time with one of your esteemed faculty members? Stop by the Student Affairs Office in order to sign up for the Dine-With-A-Prof program, which allows you and one faculty member to enjoy lunch at UCSD's Faculty Club! The Dine-With-A-Prof program is sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
• Help Plan the 2010 New Leaders Conference
Are you a Muir student leader? Planning will begin soon for the 2010 New Leaders Conference. The daylong conference, to be held on Saturday, February 6th, will aim to motivate, develop, inspire, and empower students to continue their journey of development in co-curricular life at Muir College and UCSD. • Anxiety Management Group
Feeling anxious? Stressed out? Frazzled? Join the Anxiety Management Group, sponsored by UCSD's Counseling & Psychological Services. Meetings will take place on Friday, October 30, from 1-2:30, Friday, November 6, from 1-2:30, Friday, November 13, from 1-2:30, and Friday, November 20, from 1-2:30 but space is limited to 10 students. • Study Abroad Opportunity
Always wanted to see Ireland? Here’s a way you can go to Ireland and receive academic credit for your Muir Writing courses. • Freshman Seminar - Greening of Muir
ENVR 87, a seminar offered during Winter 2010 to students from ALL colleges, is a great opportunity for students who are interested in SUSTAINABILITY. The seminar will focus on developing strategies for the more environmentally sustainable use of water at Muir College.

• Muir Creative Magazine
Like expressing yourself through prose, poetry, photography, and visual arts?! Have nowhere to channel your creative juices?! Muir Creative Magazine is a student-run publication that focuses on promoting creativity and the expression of arts. Directed solely to Muir students, an annual magazine is published every Spring Quarter compiling all the submissions collected throughout the year. Submit prose, poetry, or photography to CreativeMagazine@gmail.com by January 1. Top submissions get $100 prize!! Don't miss out!
• Muir Semi-Formal
Do you love organizing events, being creative, and having fun? Then the Muir Semi-Formal Committee is for you! We put on a dance for 300 Muir and UCSD students. We find a venue, select a caterer, create a theme, plan decorations, publicize, and more to make the whole thing happen! This year Semi-Formal is January 23 at the Bay View Restaurant. Come join our meetings Thursdays at 5:00pm in Half Dome Lounge.
• Muir Movie
Interested in being an actor? Muir Movie will be having an open casting call for both male and female actors on the weekends of week 7 and week 8. Please bring your headshot and résumé to the audition (and if you don't have one, then bring a photo). If you are interested, please contact Perrie for an appointment time. • Muir Theatre Troop Talent Show
Theater Troupe is putting on their annual Talent Show with students from Muir and other colleges. There will be singing, dancing, acting, and free cookies! The Talent Show is from 8-9:30pm on Wednesday, November 18th, in Ledden Auditorium.
