Q:
I have been admitted to Muir college for the 2007 -2008 year. When is the date that you can start moving into your dorm?
Congratulations, and welcome to Muir!
The first, and most important thing to do, is to apply online for housing. http://hds.ucsd.edu/housing/newundergrad.html Your date of application will determine your priority for certain important housing decisions.
The move-in date for Muir is Saturday, September 22nd. However, please note that your housing guarantee only applies to a space on campus, not necessarily a space at Muir. Please note also that your housing guarantee only stands if meet appropriate deadlines, as detailed at the housing website above.
Q: I heard from someone that Muir college was the only one that had co- ed housing and that co-ed apartments had priority of choosing who to live with. Is this true???
A: You can learn all about Muir's co-ed housing program here.
Q: Hi, if I'm in Warren College, I was wondering if I could stay in the Muir apartments next year. I don't know how that works out, but could I get some more info. Thanks
A: If you are a Warren Student (or any other college), That means you would not be able to apply for a space in the Muir apartments, which are only available to Muir Students. You should contact the Warren Residential Life Office for more information about the Warren Room Selection process.
If you are a Muir Student living at another college, you will be to apply for Muir space in exactly the same way as Muir Students living at Muir (described below). There is no priority given to any students, regardless of if you lived at Muir your first year or at a different college.
Q: I wondered if you could tell me when and how I can apply for housing in the Muir Apartments for 2007-2008. I heard it was on a first-come, first-serve basis, so I would like to know when I should start thinking about it.
A: Room selection applications will open on April 24th and will close on the 26th. Make sure you check your UCSD email regularly, because there will be important information about the room selection process during the last two weeks in March. Room selection is done almost entirely online, so it is crucial your UCSD email inbox isn't full.
The process is based more on a lottery than on first-come, first-served. The first step is to apply. If your application is completed by April 26th, you are guaranteed a space on campus (not necessarily in the Muir Apartments). On May 16th, everyone who met the deadline is given a lottery time. Using those times on room selection day, May 22nd, you select your space online, which is first-come, first-served.
As we get closer, Residential Life will be holding info sessions to help prepare you for the room selections process. We strongly recommend attending these. We've found in past years that the students who have problems almost all skipped the info sessions.
Q: How come sometimes my packages are in the mailroom, and sometimes they’re in Res Life?
A: If a package has to be signed for, it comes to Res Life. Everything else goes to the mailroom. For this reason, we get all FedEx and DHL packages as well as some UPS and USPS stuff, for example certified mail. If you have a slip in your box, most likely the package is in the mailroom. If the package is delivered to us, we’ll give you a call or send an email. We’re open from 8am to 6pm, the mailroom hours are posted on the mailroom door. Bring your ID!
