Student Involvement

Muir College boasts one of the most active college communities at UC San Diego. With over 30 student organizations and committees to choose from, students at all levels and backgrounds get involved in the life of the College while further developing their interpersonal and leadership skills. The College trains over 200 leaders in both volunteer and compensated student leadership positions. Through college-based programs and services, the Student Affairs Office fosters and promotes an appreciation of the environment, the development of interpersonal and leadership skills, intellectual growth and active community responsibility and engagement. Muir Mentorship Program
This program is designed to acquaint first year students to UC San Diego, build a unique bond between Muir current first year and transfer students, encourage involvement and knowledge of Muir traditions and activities, successfully transition first year students from high school to the rigors of the University environment. First year students who choose to participate will be paired up with current Muir students and new transfer students are matched with continuing transfers, who share their experiences and strategies they've learned for succeeding at UC San Diego.

Leadership Retreat Planning Committee
This committee plans the New Leaders Conference in February, the Spring Leadership Retreat in May and the fall overnight retreat. The New Leaders Conference Planning committee begins meeting in November, and the Spring and Fall Leadership Planning committee begins meeting in April.

Welcome Week Committee
Welcome Week may be the most memorable experience of your college career and Muir's Welcome Week committee is responsible for planning every aspect of it. From selecting an Unolympic theme to choosing the nightly entertainment the Welcome Week committee makes it all happen! Meetings start during the Spring quarter.

Admit Day Committee
This committee organizes an all-day extravaganza to inform prospective Muirons about the college. The committee plans the entire day's schedule which typically includes tours, outdoor activities, entertainment, and information sessions. The Admit Day Committee does not begin meeting until Winter quarter.

John Muir Week Committee
The John Muir Week Committee is in charge of planning a series of fun activities in celebration of John Muir's birthday and his legacy as an environmentalist. John Muir Week coincides with Earth Week and culminates with Muir's annual music festival, Muirstock. If you are interested in being a part of the committee, please email Sophia.
